When I came home from the office, I went to the vegetable patch, weeded first and then added new compost. It was already dark by the time I planted kohlrabi (the tall leaves in front) and the batavia lettuce seedlings (red-green and single leaf on the upper left hand side) and proceeded to water the new garden inhabitants. After the long winter season, putting the first new plants into the soil feels like reclaiming the vegetable patch. For me it is the official start of the new gardening season.
